laperm catThe Laperm is a younger breed, dating back to 1982 when a spontaneous mutation caused a curl in the hair of an Oregon kitten. Their distinct curly hair is what really sets this happy-go-lucky breed of cat and is where the name “Laperm” came from.

Laperm kittens should be trained to use litter boxes. The litter training a laperm kitten can be started after six weeks of the birth of new born kitten as they will stat to walk around this time. Laperm kittens will not learn things immediately hence patience is required while teaching lapermlaperm cat to use the litter box. When you bring a laperm kitten home, start showing the kitten your home from its litter box. When the kitten starts exploring the home from its litter box it will become familiar with all the rooms and family members. For the first two weeks you can train the laperm kitten to use the litter box when it wakes up from its nap. When trained regularly and properly they will itself start using the litter boxes.

It is recommended to use the same type of litter boxes. Litter training a laperm kitten should be done on regular basis only then the kittens will get used to the litter box. Any sudden change in the litter box will cause distress in the kitten. The litter box can be filled with natural absorbent clay and it will also control the odor.

The waste areas of the litter box should be cleaned on daily basis as laperm kittens will not use dirty litter boxes. Scooping the litter box will help in removing the liquid waste so it is better to scoop the boxes daily. Usage of scooping laperm catlitters should be avoided for pregnant cats or kittens. It is necessary to replace the litter box as the kitten grows as they cannot use the smaller litter boxes when they grow. The litter box can be either open or closed. Some cats need privacy so it is always preferable to use the closed litter boxes.
